how do you do it?
Answer: fill the three gallon jug, pour it into the 5 gallon, then filll the 3 gallon again and pour it into the 5 gallon until it is full. keep the 1 gallon left over in the 3 gallon jug. empty the 5 gallon jug, pour the remaining 1 gallon from the 3 gallon jug into the 5 gallon. then fill the three gallon again. pour it into the 4 gallon jug then you have 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug.
