Elevator

Riddle: A man goes to work Monday through Friday. He lives in an apartment so he takes an elevator down to the 1st floor. On a sunny day he rides straight down to the first floor in the morning and in the afternoon rides up to the 8th floor, gets out and walks the rest of the way up. On rainy days he rides straight down in the morning and rides all the way up to the 18th floor were his apartment is. Why does he do this?
Answer: The man is a dwarf and on rainy days he has his umbrella so he can reach the 18th button.
