Riddle: A king challenges his wisest counselor to figure out which of the nine coins is a counterfeit. The counterfeit coin is heavier than the others. To make it as difficult as possible, the counselor can only use the balance twice. How does he accomplish this task?
Answer: First you brake the coins up into three groups of three. Then you weigh two of the groups on the balance. The heavier group will have the counterfeit coin in it. If they are equil then it is in the group you left out. Then weigh two of the coins from the remnaining group on the balance. The heaviest coin is the counterfeit. If they are equil it is the coin you left out.
